Shaping Hawks: A Custom Protagonist in Star Wars: Zero Company

Customise Hawks to match your Star Wars story, from species and voice to combat style.

In Star Wars Zero Company you play as Hawks, a former Republic officer forced into a leadership role as the Clone Wars escalate. While the name and backstory remain consistent, how Hawks appears and even what species they are is entirely up to you. The class or archetype of your main character, how they play, that’s up to you too.

You can choose their gender, tweak their voice, and select from multiple species within the Star Wars universe. Bit Reactor’s Greg Foertsch explained that the team designed Hawks to be a flexible player avatar, offering just enough personality to support the story while letting you take ownership of who they are.

You can live through that character however you want,” Foertsch told GameSpot. “If you want to change the species, you can. If you want to change their voice, you can.”

While Hawks is your lens into the Clone Wars-era conflict, the rest of the squad is made up of fully authored characters with their own goals and histories. You’ll be fighting alongside a Jedi Padawan named Tell, a Mandalorian, and even an astromech droid. Each of these allies has a defined personality and their own perspective on the war, which feeds directly into story events and how your crew interacts.

These characters won’t always get along. Friction between personalities is part of the design, and your job as the commander is to manage those dynamics, both in cutscenes and in combat. As your squad bonds, you’ll unlock new synergy abilities, giving you an edge in battle.

According to Lucasfilm’s Kelsey Sharpe, it’s more than just background flavour:

The team at Bit Reactor has done a really great job weaving in the different perspectives you’d expect from these characters. It’s not just a bunch of heroes charging into battle—it’s messier than that.”

So whether you know the lore or you’re just in it for tactical gameplay, Star Wars: Zero Company gives you room to shape your own hero while managing a squad that feels like it belongs in the galaxy.
