Star Wars: Zero Company promises character customisation that lets you build your squad your way. There’s been plenty of speculation about what species will be available. Will we be able to field Rodians? Bothans? Wookiees? Maybe. But for now, six species are confirmed. Here’s a look at each one, and how they might feature in Zero Company.
HUMAN

Humans are everywhere in Star Wars: Zero Company. Hawks, the squad leader, is human. A former Republic officer who knows how to survive getting kicked out of the machine. Trick, a clone trooper who traces his lineage to Jango Fett, is also human. So is Cly Kullervo, a Mandalorian fighter with her own reasons for joining the squad. From what we’ve seen so far, humans are the most represented species in the story and gameplay. They’re in your starting crew, your cutscenes, and most likely your first pool of recruits.
That lines up with Star Wars as a whole. Humans dominate the galaxy’s major factions – the Republic, Jedi, Senate, Separatists, even the criminal underworld. They’re not the most powerful species in lore, but they tend to drive the story. Zero Company doesn’t stray far from that structure.
Gameplay-wise, humans will probably serve as the baseline: average stats, flexible roles, broad class options, and the most customisation. You’ll likely have more human squad mates than anything else, especially in the early game. They’re the default, but in Star Wars, the default still gets the job done.
Zero Company takes place during the Clone Wars, not after. The Republic is breaking apart. The Jedi are overextended. Command structures are failing. Humans make sense in that context. Hawks is a man the system discarded. Trick is a clone trying to find his own identity. They’re part of what remains when the system starts to collapse.
Homeworld: Various (including Coruscant, Mandalore, Kamino clones)
Traits: Versatile, adaptable, politically dominant
Notable Characters: Anakin Skywalker, Captain Rex, Cassian Andor
In Zero Company: Hawks, Cly Kullervo, Trick
UMBARAN

Umbarans are confirmed in Star Wars: Zero Company through Luco Bronc, the squad’s sniper. He appears in the main crew shot, positioned quietly behind the others. Pale skin, silver hair, and a constant look of detachment. Bronc doesn’t say much in the footage we’ve seen, but he doesn’t need to. He’s there to do a job, and it looks like he does it well.
In Star Wars, Umbarans have a reputation for secrecy and manipulation. Their homeworld sided with the Separatists during the Clone Wars, and their soldiers fought brutally against the Republic. They aren’t a common species in most stories, but when they appear, they usually have their own agenda. That kind of history doesn’t disappear just because someone switched sides.
Luco Bronc fits that mould. He’s part of the team, but no one’s sure how close he actually is. He doesn’t joke around, doesn’t chase approval, and doesn’t explain himself. His presence adds weight to the squad dynamic. He’s an outsider in a group of outsiders, and that makes him worth watching.
Homeworld: Umbara
Traits: Calculating, secretive, distrusted
Notable Characters: Mee Deechi, Pong Krell
In Zero Company: Luco Bronc
TOGNATH

Tognath are confirmed in Star Wars: Zero Company through Tel Rea Vokoss, a member of the main squad seen in official artwork. She wears a rebreather and goggles, and carries herself with quiet, deliberate focus. No lines in the footage so far, but her presence in the squad is clearly established.
Tognaths are a cybernetically augmented species from the planet Yar Togna. They rely on breathing gear and enhanced optics after generations of environmental damage and forced adaptation. In canon, they’re most recognisable through Edrio “Two Tubes” and his brother Benthic, guerrilla fighters aligned with Saw Gerrera’s partisans..
Tel Rea Vokoss matches that lineage. She moves with purpose, doesn’t waste words, and doesn’t care about being understood. She does the job, holds the line, and watches everything.
Homeworld: Yar Togna
Traits: Augmented, silent, relentless
Notable Characters: Edrio “Two Tubes,” Benthic
In Zero Company: Tel Rea Vokoss
ZABRAK

Zabrak are confirmed in Star Wars: Zero Company through the customisation screen. The horns and facial markings are unmistakable. No name or role has been revealed, but they’re clearly a playable option. They stand out, which fits. Zabrak characters don’t blend in easily, and they rarely try to.
In Star Wars, Zabraks are known for their resilience and focus. Their most famous representative is Darth Maul, but that’s only one side of them. Many Zabraks served the Republic, joined planetary defence forces, or became mercenaries. Their culture values discipline and self-mastery. They train hard, fight hard, and recover fast.
Adding a Zabrak to the squad makes sense if Zero Company is offering more than just blasters and quips. They bring intensity, and that shifts the balance of a team. You don’t need to make them edgy or angry. Just give them something to survive, and they’ll handle the rest.
Homeworld: Iridonia or Dathomir
Traits: Resilient, driven, focused
Notable Characters: Darth Maul, Eeth Koth
In Zero Company: Confirmed playable (customisation screen)
TWI’LEK

Twi’leks are confirmed in Star Wars: Zero Company through the customisation screen. One of the recruitable characters shown is a green-skinned Twi’lek wearing standard squad gear. No name or backstory has been revealed yet, but the inclusion is clear. They’re part of the available roster.
In the Star Wars universe, Twi’leks are everywhere, some as politicians, others as resistance fighters, smugglers, or slaves. Their homeworld, Ryloth, saw heavy conflict during the Clone Wars, with many Twi’leks joining Republic-aligned militias. They’re fast, adaptable, and used to surviving under pressure.
In a squad like Zero Company, a Twi’lek fits well into support, recon, or infiltration roles. They know how to move quietly, how to get in and out, and how to read a room. You don’t need them to be the loudest in the group. You need them to get the job done and still be standing when it’s over.
Homeworld: Ryloth
Traits: Agile, persuasive, survival-focused
Notable Characters: Hera Syndulla, Bib Fortuna, Cham Syndulla
In Zero Company: Confirmed playable (customisation screen)
TOGRUTA

Togruta are confirmed in Star Wars: Zero Company through the customisation screen. One appears in full squad armour, montrals and head-tails clearly visible. There’s no name or backstory tied to this character yet, but the species is playable and represented from the start.
In Star Wars, Togruta are best known through Ahsoka Tano and Shaak Ti. They come from Shili, a world where survival means working closely in groups. Togruta value unity, awareness, and precision. They’re not loners by nature, and they rarely act without purpose. That instinct to read their environment and move as part of a team gives them a natural place in a squad-based game.
In Zero Company, a Togruta recruit likely brings focus and field awareness. They don’t posture. They act. If the game allows for specialisations in flanking, support, or mid-line roles, expect them to perform well there. They’ve fought in the Clone Wars before, and they’re not new to losing people. They keep moving anyway.
Homeworld: Shili
Traits: Team-oriented, perceptive, precise
Notable Characters: Ahsoka Tano, Shaak Ti
In Zero Company: Confirmed playable (customisation screen)
These six species give us an early sense of how Star Wars: Zero Company handles squad design. It’s a grounded selection. Some choices are familiar, others less so, but all of them reflect the tone of the setting. These aren’t clean-cut heroes from the centre of the Republic. They’re survivors, outliers, and former loyalists trying to stay useful. Every recruit brings history, not just numbers.
That’s the roster for now. More species will likely appear closer to release, but these six are confirmed and already part of the squad. Next time, we’ll look at the ones we haven’t seen yet, the species that make sense, fit the timeline, and feel like they’re just waiting to show up.
Until then, what species would you want in your squad?
