Ubisoft Massive is doubling down on Star Wars Outlaws despite a rocky start. A second story DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune, arrives May 15, 2025, putting fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka into the spotlight. A Nintendo Switch 2 port of the base game has also been confirmed for September 4.
Outlaws had a lot going for it when it launched last summer — a huge open world, a fresh cast, and a gritty Star Wars setting focused on crime and survival. But it didn’t land the way Ubisoft hoped. Reviews pointed to a flat story, repetitive side quests, empty-feeling planets, and underwhelming space combat. Despite decent sales, player interest faded fast. Patches and the first Lando Calrissian DLC made small improvements, but the game never fully recovered its momentum.
Now Ubisoft is trying to bring some energy back with A Pirate’s Fortune. Kay Vess and her companion Nix team up with Hondo Ohnaka for a treasure hunt across new worlds. Along the way, they’ll clash with the Rokana Raiders, a gang led by Stinger Tash, and explore the mysterious Khepi Tomb. Ubisoft says players can expect new smuggling missions tied to space combat, suggesting one of the game’s weakest areas is finally getting an upgrade.
Hondo’s return isn’t random. As a fixture in The Clone Wars and Rebels, he’s one of the Star Wars universe’s most recognizable and entertaining rogues. His chaotic, self-serving attitude should fit right in with Kay’s survival-driven story. The early trailer hints at a livelier tone than the base game, which could help if Ubisoft is serious about rebuilding goodwill.
Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws will launch September 4. Announced during Star Wars Celebration Japan (via Nintendo Life), the port shows Ubisoft’s ongoing investment in keeping Outlaws alive across more platforms.
Star Wars Outlaws is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
