It’s official! Ahsoka Season 2 has entered production. Rosario Dawson confirmed the news with a post on Instagram, featuring a behind-the-scenes photo of her shadow in costume. You only see her silhouette, but the lekku give it away, and the caption “& we’re off…to galaxies far, far away….” Simple, effective, and enough to light up fan speculation.

Up until Star Wars Celebration 2025, there was radio silence on the second season. That changed when Dave Filoni shared early concept art during the event. The preview teased the return of Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, Hera Syndulla, and a confrontation with Baylan Skoll. Filoni also confirmed that Rory McCann – best known as The Hound from Game of Thrones – will take over the role of Baylan, following Ray Stevenson’s passing in 2023. Hayden Christensen is expected to return again as Anakin Skywalker, and there’s talk of Admiral Ackbar making a comeback alongside Thrawn.
There’s also the lingering mystery of the Mortis gods. Season 1 ended with Baylan standing atop a statue of the Father. Filoni called it “a big mystery” and confirmed the Daughter and the Son are also involved… sort of. It’s clear that Season 2 will dive deeper into the Clone Wars and Rebels mythos, tying up threads left hanging since the finale.
Despite the excitement, there’s a downside: Season 2 isn’t coming any time soon. Production was delayed due to overlap with The Mandalorian & Grogu film, which wrapped filming earlier this year. If you’re trying to do the maths: Season 1 began filming in May 2022 and released in August 2023. That’s a 15-month turnaround.
Following that timeline, with filming now underway, we’re looking at a likely release in late 2026, almost exactly three years after Season 1. That’s an even longer gap than the delay between Andor seasons, and one of the worst lags we’ve seen in Disney’s streaming schedule.

The broader Star Wars streaming slate is still murky. Aside from The Mandalorian & Grogu, no other Star Wars shows have officially entered production. A few projects are still floating around in pre-development limbo, but Ahsoka might be the only one with a confirmed second season in motion.
Behind the scenes, Dave Filoni is spinning multiple plates, and it seems the show’s timeline is now tied to the upcoming film. According to current speculation, The Mandalorian & Grogu releases in May 2026, with Ahsoka Season 2 following later that summer. Still unconfirmed if the characters cross over, but it’s all being treated as one connected arc.
Add to that the pressure of recasting a major role, the complexity of continuing Baylan’s storyline respectfully, and the heavy effects work required and it’s no surprise things are moving slowly.
For fans, it’s bittersweet. Ahsoka Season 2 is happening, but the long wait continues. Keep your expectations in check and your lightsabres charged.
